How to Use and Maintain the Storage Battery for Mobile Pallet Changers

The battery is a critical component of the mobile pallet inverter, powering its operations and ensuring efficiency. To maximize the lifespan and performance of the battery, proper maintenance is essential. We recommend that customers consider purchasing an extra battery for backup and seamless operation. Below are key guidelines on using and maintaining your storage battery.

1. Common Sense of Initial Charging

Upon receiving your mobile pallet inverter, the battery has typically been charged before leaving the factory, allowing for immediate use. However, it is important to monitor the battery level; once it drops below 30-40%, charging should commence promptly. A common practice is to charge the battery overnight, which generally requires about 10 hours for a full charge.

The charger provided by the manufacturer has been calibrated for optimal performance. Users should avoid adjusting the voltage settings without professional guidance, as improper adjustments can lead to damage to both the battery and the charger. Always refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations for charging protocols.

2. Irrigation of the Battery

After a period of use, it's vital to check the battery fluid level regularly. Users should refer to the battery scale to determine if replenishment is necessary. The temperature of the electrolyte added to the battery should ideally be between 21°C and 32°C. Additionally, ensure that the liquid level is maintained at 15-20 mm above the protective plate. If the electrolyte temperature rises above this range, it is crucial to allow the battery to stand for 3-4 hours until the temperature cools down to around 30°C before proceeding with charging. In particularly hot conditions, manual cooling methods can be employed to regulate the temperature.

3. Normal Charging Procedures

Once fully charged, the specific gravity of the electrolyte should be approximately 0.10 higher than its original reading. If the specific gravity is outside this range, it can be adjusted using distilled water or concentrated sulfuric acid with a specific gravity of 1.29. Ensure that the liquid level remains at least 15-20 mm above the protective plate.

After adjustments, the battery should undergo a second-stage charging process for about one hour to achieve uniform electrolyte density. If the specific gravity still does not meet the required range, repeat the adjustment process until compliance is achieved.

4. Maintenance of the Battery

How to Use and Maintain the Storage Battery for Mobile Pallet Changers

To prolong the life of your battery, adhere to the following maintenance practices:

  • a. Immediate Charging Post-Discharge: After the battery discharge reaches its limit (10.5 volts and specific gravity below 1.15), it should be charged without delay. Delaying charging for more than 24 hours can harm the battery.
  • b. Avoid Over-Discharge and Over-Charge: Always operate within the manufacturer’s specified voltage ranges to prevent damaging the battery.
  • c. Keep the Battery Surface Clean: Regularly clean the surface of the battery and the pole plugs. Applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly or grease can help prevent corrosion.
  • d. Check Electrolyte Levels Regularly: If the electrolyte level is low, refill with distilled water and charge for 20-30 minutes to ensure proper mixing. Avoid over-concentration of electrolyte, as this can lead to battery damage.
  • e. Maintain Ventilation Holes: Ensure that the small holes on the battery cover are not blocked to allow for proper gas venting.
  • f. Battery Validity: New batteries have a validity period of one year from the date of manufacture. It’s important to keep track of this timeframe for effective usage.
  • g. Cover Management: Do not loosen the battery cover before charging, as this can expose the battery slot to outside air, which may lead to performance issues.
  • h. Storage Recommendations: When the battery is not in use, it should be fully charged and stored in a cool, dry place. To maintain battery health, recharge it once a month even if it is not being used.

By following these guidelines for using and maintaining your storage battery, you can ensure optimal performance and longevity, maximizing the efficiency of your mobile pallet inverter. Regular maintenance and mindful operation will not only enhance safety but also reduce operational costs over time.
